Perou

These images were taken by Perou, a british fashion, music and portrait photographer, of various people including celebrities like Sienna Miller and Plan B. Perou's work is highly rated and he has appeared on multiple reality television shows, for example make me a supermodel (as a judge) and dirty sexy things (as the main photographer). The first photo is of Plan B, it is sharp, simple and well lit.

The following photographs are from his time on E4 show dirty sexy things:

Composition

The composition of a photo is the way its arranged to appear the most pleasing, this link explains the rules of composition: http://www.photographymad.com/pages/view/10-top-photography-composition-rules. The site shows many of the rules of composition using examples to help explain.
This photo is well composed because it obeys the rule of thirds and using complimentry colours (blue and orange) to draw attention to the focal point. However the following one is not, its leading lines lead away from the focal point and distract the viewer because the object is centred.

Focal Point

The focal point is the part of the photo the eye is most drawn too, the following link will take you to a website that describes the use of focal point in photography: http://www.worldstart.com/using-focal-points-in-photography/

This photo uses a shallow depth of field, making the raindrop sharp, and drawing attention to it, therefore making it the focal point.

The next photo uses leading lines, this is when objects in the photo draw lines towads the subject or focal point.

Depth of Field

Depth of Field is an important factor in photography, the following link will take you to a website that describes depth of field in quite complex language: http://www.cambridgeincolour.com/tutorials/depth-of-field.htm this is good because it helps you understand how it works and how to use it.

This photo is a good example of a shallow depth of field because the objects in the foreground are sharp and the background is out of focus, it was taken by Tedric Garrison. Furthermore the following photo has a large depth of field because everything as far as you can see is in focus.

Lighting

The lighting of a photo is very important it helps to decide what you see and how you interpret it, overrall the lighting can make or break a photo.

This photo is an image of singer Demi Lovato which was taken by Tyler Shields, the lighting used is a single white light focused on her face, however more lights in the background reveal the silhouette of her hat. The room itself is very dark and the photo is focused on the subjects face as it the most visible and well lit object and centred with a sharp focus.
The following hyperlink will take you to a useful website that contains helpful information about lighting, it's particularly good because it suggests different ways in which you can use light: http://www.picturecorrect.com/tips/use-of-light-in-photography/.
The other example is quite different, although it is also of Demi Lovato and from the same shoot, because the subject is lit from the front with a centred, harsh, bright, white light. This means she has a sharp visible shadow. The photo is simple and lacks depth - except that which is added by the shadow.

First Analysis - Annie Liebowitz

FACTUAL: Annie Liebowitz is an American portrait photographer, born October 2nd 1949. She is most famous for being the chief photgrapher of Rolling Stone magazine.
CONTEXT: This photo is one of many celebrity portraits by Annie, a lot of these portraits feature the famous people wearing little or no clothing. Miley Cyrus is the well known subject.
TECHNICAL: The photograph is fairly well lit but the colour has been reduced and the contrast increased, causing her hair and lips to appear unnatural shades. You are first drawn to the subjects face because she is looking into the lense and it seems as if she is making eye contact with the viewer.
AESTHETIC: I like this photo because it contains an element of danger and mystery because the subjects lips are blood red and her facial expression is almost a smirk.

First Analysis - Vee Speers

FACTUAL: Vee Speers was born in Newcastle, Australia in 1962. She is currently residing in Paris which she has described as a place with "unlimited potential and endless creative inspiration".
THE CONTEXT: This photo is one of many from a body of work called the birthday party, this photo, along with all the others features a young child dressed for a costume party, some of the outcomes are innocent or others like the above have a dark twist.
TECHNICAL: The photo is well lit and sharp with a simple background. The camera is placed so the shot includes 3/4 of the subjects body, it also faces the subject straight on. The colour has also been reduced (desaturation) to appear dull and unnatural. Your eyes are also drawn to the dolls as it is the focal point of the photo and contains brighter contrasting colours.
AESTHETIC: Personally I like this photo because although the girl alone would appear innocent the addition of the dolls creates an illusion of power and darkness.
